The Vining Elementary School serves students from grades K-5

School History

The Vining School was opened in September, 1957. It was named after Eugene Conrad Vining, a former schoolteacher and superintendent of schools in Billerica. Vining was born in 1874 in Durham, Maine, and came to Billerica in 1901 as the assistant at the Old Howe School. He soon became principal of the school, a position which he yielded in 1915 when he was elected Superintendent of Schools. He retired in 1941, and died on July 8th, 1953.

Vision Statement

The Vining School Council affirms the belief of the Massachusetts Common Core of learning that "all children can become life long learners and meet high standards." In our present day world of conflict, the students will begin to strengthen their own level of self-respect and respect toward others by fostering positive attitudes which provide the foundation for success. With added financial resources, the school will become a safe, clean and attractive physical environment conducive to learning. Our staff will continue to develop professionally; challenging and encouraging academic success among our students. Parents and community members will be active participants in the educational process. The students will have access to the resources and support necessary for each to reach his/her maximum potential; to meet the future's challenge; and success in the technological advances of the twenty-first century. The Vining School will continue to be a warm, inviting, friendly place that supports and recognizes the achievement and hard work of its students. The Vining School is the commencement of education. It holds the power to create a strong, positive model for life long learning. The School Improvement Plan is our blueprint for their future. We believe it to be a structurally sound beginning.
