Parents picking up children may wait outside the main entrance to the school or within the main corridor by the principal's office.
Entering from Call St., turn right through the parking spaces and around, lining up to the left of the yellow stripped area. The yellow area is the walkway for chilren. Drop off children along the yellow lined area. Entrance onto school property from Rogers St. is prohibited during arrival and dismissal times due to possible interference with arriving and exiting buses. All vehicles, picking up children at the end of the day, must exit the parking area through the crossing guard only.
Children not taking the bus home will be dismissed through the main entrance. They are usually dismissed first at the end of a school day and should remain on the building's entry platform until the crossing guard escorts them to the crosswalk at Call St. Walking children should be advised by parents to walk single file up Call St. on the side facing traffic. They should be aware of traveling buses and automobiles at all times.
Parents could request an early dismissal by sending a note to their child's teacher.
Parents must report to the office to sign the student out early. Students will be called to the office for dismissal.
If someone other than the parent or guardian is dismissing the student, the school will require a note of authorization signed by the parent or guardian and proper identification.
When a child will not be taking the bus home as usual, but will be picked up by the parent instead, a note should be sent to the teacher requesting the child be dismissed with the walkers.
If a child misses the bus at dismissal, he/she should be instructed to return to the office, tell a staff person and a parent will then be called.
Sometimes a winter storm will develop during the school day. This will necessitate an early dismissal for schools. Parents should instruct their children in the procedure they want their children to follow when returning home earlier than usual. This is especially important for parents employed outside the Billerica area. Many times the storm will develop in the Billerica area but not in the area where parents are employed.
Early dismissal announcements will be broadcast on radio stations and cable channel 10. Therefore, if inclement weather commences after the start of school, please listen to the radio for weather advisories.
Except in an emergency, cleared with the Principal in advance, pupils are NOT permitted to ride a school bus other than the one to which they are assigned. Changing buses for after-school meetings or to visit friends cannot be permitted. However, if supervision will not be available at home, a note may be brought to the school office in the morning stating where the child will be going, the reason, and a telephone number where the parent can be reached.
Pupils who do not have written permission to either stay for after-school activities or to be transported by car will be placed on their regular bus home.
Children must have a note from their parents giving them permission to ride their bikes. When on school grounds, children are required to walk the bicycle to and from its resting place (bike rack).
