Reading Is Out Of This World
Grades K-2
This year we will be going on an imaginary flight to the sun to become star readers. We will travel to each planet by reading a required number of books. Solar maps containing the route and amount of books required to reach each planet will be sent to each classroom.
Every child in grades K-2 will receive recognition if the class as a whole reaches a certain reading goal.
Each planet will have reading goals and different prizes.
Book drawings in each classroom will also be held.
Suggested Time Line
The planets Neptune and Uranus-----end of November
The planets Saturn and Jupiter------end of January
The planets Earth and Mercury -----end of March
The planets Venus and Mars --------end of May
Mission accomplished---Star Readers
Kindergarten students are responsible for 10 books a month (to be read to them).
First grade students are responsible for 15 books a month
Second grade students are responsible for 8 books a month
If a class does not adhere to the time line, they are still in the reading game and will receive their prizes when their books are completed.
The program finishes at the end of May.
The prizes get progressively better with each planet visit.
Let us all become star readers and make it to the sun.

Read Across America 2008
March 3, 2008
Students, Parents, Teachers Join Forces to Celebrate
NEA’s Read Across America Day On March 3rd
Also----- March 2nd is Dr. Seuss’s birthday

In celebration of both events, your child’s classroom was visited on Friday, Feb. 29th by the “Cat in the Hat.” The “Cat” read a short book by Dr. Seuss, discussed biographical information, made the children aware of other books that he wrote and modeled reading strategies.

The “Cat” also distributed a fun-filled Seussville activity packet. This is not a homework assignment that has to be returned. The packet also includes the National Education Association’s tips for reading to young, school age children and a brief biography of Theodor Geisel, a.k.a. Dr. Seuss. Enjoy all the books, and have fun reading and learning together.

Seussfully yours,
Mrs. J. Infanger
