Mrs. Burns' 3rd grade class at Ditson Elementary School in Billerica, Massachusetts have read a funny book called "FLAT STANLEY" by Jeff Brown.
This book is about a young boy named Stanley Lambchop who is accidentally squished "as flat as a pancake" as the result of an unfortunate accident involving a heavy bulletin board that falls onto him while sleeping one night. Stanley is very, very flat but otherwise fine. The story goes on to tell how Stanley discovers some real advantages to being flat. He can slide under doors, go down into sidewalk grates, and even fold himself up small enough to fit into an envelope and is mailed to California (from a city far away in the USA) for an exciting vacation.
We have sent out paper dolls that we call Flat Stanlyes. Our goal is to have Flat Stanley travel to all 50 states this year. We are interested in finding out what Flat Stanley might wear, what the climate is like and what types of activities Flat Stanley might see or do at each place he visits.
