ACADEMIC EXPECTATIONS

At B.M.H.S. you should choose courses that challenge you to reach your potential for growth. With input from teachers, guidance counselors, and your parents, you should diagnose your learning strengths and weaknesses and then select appropriate courses in each department.

ADVANCED PLACEMENT (AP):


TITLE I READING/STUDY SKILLS SUPPORT AND TITLE I MATHEMATICS

• Title 1 services are offered in reading and mathematics and, as part of a support program, are supplementary to regular classroom work.
• In Title 1 Reading, freshmen receive individualized and small group instruction to improve reading and study skills. Students are guided daily in their study of and preparation for English, science, and social studies classes. Grading is pass-fail and based upon the quality of an individual’s use of instruction time and the application of study skills in related content areas. Students earn five credits for successful completion of the course.
• Title 1 Mathematics is an inclusionary program. The Title 1 tutor, working along with the classroom teacher, supports students in their regular math or MCAS math class to promote a better understanding of the math concepts presented in class.
• Prerequisites for both programs include MCAS scores, grades, skills and work habits, and teacher recommendations.
